Achraf Hakimi Charged with Sexual Assault: The Latest Update on PSG and Morocco Defender

On Friday, French prosecutors informed AFP that Achraf Hakimi, the Moroccan and Paris Saint-Germain defender, has been accused of sexual assault and charged after being questioned on Thursday in relation to allegations made by a 24-year-old woman.

Despite the charges, the 24-year-old player, who was instrumental in Morocco's historic journey to the semi-finals of the World Cup in Qatar last year, was seen at PSG's training session on Friday morning. When contacted by AFP, the club declined to comment.

The accusation against Hakimi suggests that he paid for his accuser to travel to his home while his wife and children were away on vacation. Hakimi was in Paris on Monday, where he was recognized as a member of the FIFPro men's world team of the year at the FIFA Best awards ceremony.

In Qatar, he was a key member of the Morocco squad that became the first Arab nation to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup. It should be noted that in France, being charged does not necessarily imply that the case will be brought to trial.
