Manchester City defender John Stones headed a dramatic late winner to secure a 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, taking them to the top of the Premier League. The win extended City's unbeaten run in the league to an impressive 31 games, setting a new club record.
Despite dominating possession throughout the match at Molineux, City were stunned in the seventh minute when a perfect cross from Nelson Semedo was met with a composed finish from Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen. The goal put Wolves ahead and threatened to derail City's momentum.
However, City responded with a determined effort to equalize. Defender Josko Gvardiol found himself in space and curled a beautiful shot past Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa to level the score in the 33rd minute.
The match remained level until the dying moments, when Stones rose above the Wolves defense to head home a corner from Kevin De Bruyne. The goal was initially checked by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) but was ultimately awarded, sending the City fans into raptures.
With the victory, Manchester City moved to the top of the Premier League table on goal difference, with 20 points. Liverpool, who face Chelsea later on Sunday, are currently second with 18 points. Wolves remain at the bottom of the table with just one point.
